Jack Novak

Jack is a multidisciplinary performer, fusing a wide range of skills and disciplines with high professionalism and a classical core in his work onstage.

Growing up in San Diego, the son of two theatre professionals, Jack studied Theatre at Northwestern university, where he was a member and director of legendary improv group, Mee-Ow, and where his training included the year-long Mime sequence as well as the rigorous three-year Acting curriculum. While living in Chicago, Jack worked extensively with The Mime Company and Filament Theatre Ensemble, and trained in improv at The Second City, The Annoyance, and One Group Mind.

Since moving to Washington, DC in 2012, Jack has performed at Imagination Stage (The BFG, Blue, Brother Bear), Faction of Fools (Pinocchio! - a Helen Hayes Award-nominated production), The Source Festival ((a love story)), and Chesapeake Shakespeare Company (All's Well that Ends Well), among others.

He starred as Dusty in Nu Sass' 2014 Fringe entry, Stone Tape Party, which won the Fringe Audience Awards for Best Comedy and Best Overall. He has also performed with Commonwealth—one of Washington Improv Theatre’s premier ensembles--and his own puppet improv trio, The Fuzz Ups. He performs improv and stand-up comedy frequently around DC.

Jack has trained in Clown, Neutral Mask, Commedia dell'Arte, Aikido, Linklater voice technique, Feldenkrais, and Playwriting (see the "Playwright" section for more on that). He can juggle, ride a unicycle, play the clarinet, saxophone, & guitar, do the worm, and sing the ABC's backwards. He believes that this wide range of skills and experience is vital for an actor in the contemporary theatre, but also relies on a solid core of text analysis and action work.
